DFC Signs Signs Climate Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture Project (CRESAP) Agreement

Belmopan, Belize, June 26  2024 – The Development Finance Corporation (DFC) is pleased to announce that on June 26, 2024, the Government of Belize, World Bank, Social Investment Fund, and Development Finance Corporation entered into an agreement to execute the Climate Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture Project (CRESAP).

This innovative program aims to enhance agricultural productivity and advance climate-smart farming practices throughout Belize. The World Bank has approved funding of US$25 million to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise through the Government of Belize. The Social Investment Fund serves as the implementing agency on behalf of the borrower, with the DFC serving as the Participating Financial Institution to co-finance eligible projects.

CRESAP aims to enhance agricultural productivity and promote the adoption of climate-smart agricultural approaches among beneficiaries, while effectively responding to eligible crisis or emergency events. The project focuses on increasing the yields of key crops and livestock, encouraging the adoption of sustainable land management practices, and improving the resilience of agricultural producers through comprehensive support. CRESAP aims to benefit approximately 3,700 farmers through matching grants. The project will also ensure at least 30% of beneficiaries to be women, addressing gender gaps and empowering women farmers.
