THE POSITION

The Chief Lending Officer is a key member of the Corporation’s Executive Leadership Team and provides strategic and tactical direction in order to achieve the Corporation’s objectives for development impact and financial sustainability through its suite of loan services, quality portfolio, market share, productivity and quality service. The Chief Lending Officer provides oversight to the Corporate Relations, Retail Relations, Portfolio Management and Marketing functions of the Corporation.

Education & Experience

1. M.Sc. in Finance, Economics or other quantitative field, or an MBA.

2. At least 5 years of progressive management experience, preferably in a financial institution.

OR a BSc. in Finance, Economics or other quantitative field, along with 8 years or more of related experience would be considered.

3. Proven leadership skills with special concentration on strategic planning, change management, and communication.

4. Advanced loan underwriting/credit appraisal knowledge, and assessment of related risks.

5. Understanding DFC’s role as a development finance institution and its mandate to shape Belize’s economic and social landscape.

6. High ethical standards and uncompromising sense of integrity.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  1. Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic direction and develop business plans to ensure the relevance and quality of loan and related services, maintain optimal market share, and achieve financial sustainability and developmental impact.
  2. Digital Transformation: Drive digital transformation initiatives and foster a leadership culture that embraces innovation and change.
  3. Team Leadership: Provide strong leadership to the lending team by leading by example and fostering a high-performance company culture that emphasizes customer focus, quality, continuous improvement, and learning.
  4. Policy Oversight: Recommend loan policy changes to Executive Management and the Board as necessary. Ensure proper interpretation, enforcement, and compliance with Loan Policies and Procedures.
  5. Portfolio Management: Implement strategies to drive optimal portfolio growth and maintain high portfolio quality, contributing to the Corporation’s overall sustainability.
  6. Loan Evaluation and Approval: Oversee the effective evaluation and assessment of loan proposals, provide recommendations for approvals within delegated authority levels, and approve loans as per the assigned authority.
  7. Funding Negotiations: Engage in negotiations with local, regional, and international financial agencies to secure funding for the Corporation.
  8. Innovation and Efficiency: Identify and implement innovative technological solutions to enhance loan servicing processes, improve customer satisfaction, create operational efficiencies, and manage costs effectively.
  9. Client Relationship Management: Lead strategic initiatives to strengthen relationships with clients, ensuring that services and solutions align with their objectives and the Corporation’s strategic goals.
