DFC and BLPA Signs Memorandum of Understanding

City of Belmopan, Cayo District | September 17, 2024 – The Development Finance Corporation (DFC) is pleased to announce its collaborative partnership with the Belize Livestock Producers Association (BLPA) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding today to drive the sustainable development of Belize’s cattle industry.

This decision is rooted in both organizations’ core belief of promoting the adoption of climate-smart livestock practices among farmers to enhance resilience to climate change, ultimately contributing to the economic growth of Belize’s agricultural sector. This collaboration is to strengthen the livestock industry by ensuring that farmers have access to financial resources and technical support to increase productivity, improve herd genetics, and implement sustainable practices.

The Belize Livestock Producers Association (BLPA) has been instrumental in advancing the livestock industry in Belize. As outlined in its governing Act, the BLPA is responsible and has made substantial strides toward establishing a more structured and sustainable livestock sector. A part of DFC’s mandate is to provide agricultural and livestock loans to eligible livestock producers to support the development and expansion of their operations.
Through this partnership, the DFC and the BLPA will collaborate to boost the productivity, sustainability, and resilience of Belize’s livestock industry, thereby supporting the economic growth and overall well-being of the country’s agricultural sector.
